Next time you are in Mérida or Campeche make a stop over at Bécal the Panama Hat Town. Making hats is the number one industry of this town. There are a lot of hat stores and some have tours on how they make the hats.
I visited Sombreros de jipi Alfredo only 5 minutes off the highway about half between Mérida and Campeche.
Came away with two hats and had a fun tour.
